Our History

Christ College History

Christ is an outstanding college having many characteristic features in Thalassery- a city of educational institutions. Started nearby Thalassery pier in pandikasalas, it is an endeavour of a group of dedicated and noble minded youths against educational exploitation. C.P.Hareendran, M.Krishnan, Choorayi Chandran, C. Suresh etc. were the pioneers of this venture. In 1984 the college was registered as thalassery Educational and Cultural Society under charitable societies act. Thus pandikasalas became education institution and started spreading the light of knowledge. Choorayi Chandran was the founder principal of this college. The dedicated and sincere services of Kollian Raghavan, P. Sivadasan, P. Anandan and the support and blessings of a lot of eminent personalities in the society paved the way for the growth and development of this college. Christ College, Karayathil Narayanan Library, Hermann Gundert Reference Library, IT & Multimedia Education Centres are the units of Educational cultural society.

Karayathil Narayanan Library and Herman Gundert Reference Library of this college have played a prominent role in enhancing the academic standards. A spacious computer lab provides an outstanding role in IT field.

The victims of natural calamities and catastrophe used to receive affection and financial helps from teachers and students of Christ college. To the students of Christ college blood donation is a voluntary noble mission. Palliative care is also their field of action. Organizing seminars and symposium and providing debates and orientation. Debating Christ a cultural forum of Christ enhances the leadership qualities of students. In the fields of sports, especially in cricket Christ College has an efficient team participating in District Division League.

To enhance the academic standards and to provide better infrastructural facilities, the governing body of college proposed to construct a new building. It was in these circumstances, the governing body could construct a four-storeyed building nearby town hall in 2005. Classes from plus Two to post graduation level are conducted here. Now this college is one of the leading parallel institutions in Kerala, having more than 3000 students. About 90 employees are working in different departments and posts. In addition of providing educational opportunities to economically backward students, college also provides employment opportunities to educated persons.
